New Museum Lighting – ICA with SL 20.3 LED

Providing an outlet for all kinds of experimental art, the world-renowned Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) was founded in London in 1946. It swiftly evolved into an important UK centre for contemporary art – with growing international aspirations, while remaining focused on British artists. Its close proximity to Buckingham Palace has provided a number of opportunities for legendary projects, such as the famous series of fundraising concerts, ‘Intruders at the Palace’, in which celebrities and musicians like David Bowie enthusiastically participated. The ICA is upgrading all of the museum’s lighting with the installation of Luxsystem SL 20.3 LED luminaires.

The minimalist aesthetics, quality design and finish won them over while searching the internet for a modern flexible LED solution. Initially a square and rectangular design was sought for the general lighting, but in the end the planners opted for a more flexible and striking linear solution. Our partners from EPS Lighting in London, having extensive experience in such lighting requirements, took charge of the entire planning and commissioning. Waving their usual fees, they sought to provide a uniquely flexible system focused on maximizing each individual exhibition areas potential. The SL 20.3 had to be integrated unobtrusively and discretely to ensure focusing all viewers’ attention on the artworks. Intuitively controllable through DALI, a perfectly suitable individualised lighting plan can be easily created for each artistic event.
